Liquidity zones are areas on the chart where a large number of orders are clustered. These zones attract price because institutions need liquidity to fill large positions. Understanding where liquidity sits helps traders anticipate future price movements.
Markets move toward liquidity because that is where the largest pools of buy and sell orders exist. Institutions cannot enter or exit positions without triggering significant slippage, so they push price toward areas where retail traders place stop-losses, pending orders or breakout entries.
Liquidity tends to accumulate in predictable places. These areas often act as magnets for price.
A liquidity grab occurs when price briefly moves beyond a key level to trigger stop-losses or attract breakout traders. After collecting liquidity, price often reverses sharply in the opposite direction. This behaviour is a hallmark of institutional trading.
Liquidity can be classified into two main categories, each serving a different purpose in market structure.
